Lobster with Getting There sign

Perth to Margaret River

How to get to Margs

Margaret River is a little slice of magic tucked into the south-west corner of WA. It takes a tiny bit of effort to reach - but that’s part of the charm.

✈️Nearest Airports

Perth Airport

This is the main international hub. If you’re flying in from overseas, you’ll likely land here.

Busselton Margaret River Airport

If you’re flying in from other parts of Australia, Busselton Margaret River Airport is a closer option. Small airport energy. Very civilised.

From Perth, it’s about a 3 to 3.5 hour drive to Margaret River…. depending on snack stops, coffee stops etc. Tom’s non-negotiable is Miami Bakehouse, not one to miss.

🚗The Drive

The drive down from Perth is easy, scenic and very WA. Big skies, gum trees and kangaroos. This is not a grim motorway situation - it’s a dreamy drive.

Rough timings:

⏱️Perth → Margaret River: 3–3.5 hours

⏱️Busselton → Margaret River: 40–50 minutes

Again, for our non-Australian guests: distances are real here. Factor them in. There are no train or tube rides.

🔑Car Hire

If you’re flying into Perth, hiring a car is strongly recommended. Margaret River is spread out and public transport is… aspirational.

Book early, especially for larger vehicles.

Consider grouping up and sharing - let’s keep things social.

If you’re staying in town and only coming for the weekend, you may be able to coordinate lifts with Perth-based folx.

Busselton Airport also has limited car hire available, but supply can be smaller, so plan ahead.

🚕Taxis

There are taxis in the region, but they are very limited and not particularly spontaneous.

If you’re staying further out (read: cute bush hideaway 25 minutes away), pre-book transport wherever possible.

🚌Wedding Day Transport

We’re planning to organise wedding day transport to and from the venue for guests staying in:

Margaret River Town

Prevelly

Details (pick-up points, times, etc.) will come closer to the date once we know where everyone is based.

If you stay within these areas, we hope to make getting you there and back beautifully easy.

If you choose a charming off-grid cabin deep in the bush… you may need to appoint a designated driver or make friends with someone organised.
